An Inside Look:NBC Connecticut in HD

The Laurel was recently invited to join a tour of NBC Connecticut’s new cutting-edge facility in West Hartford which stands right next to the station’s former home. While the old joint saw 55 years of broadcast history (see Gerry Brooks’ blog for more) it was no longer up to today’s standards.  Although the most notable quality of the new building is its ability to broadcast in high-definition, there’s much more. Several environmentally friendly ideas have been incorporated. The old building will be recycled piece by piece. This will include things as simple as grinding down old bricks to fill in the new parking lot. In addition, there is live capability throughout the building, which gives producers, photographers and reporters a lot of options.  We’re happy for our friends at NBC Connecticut (which we think we’re supposed to call you – not NBC30 right? – even though that former branding campaign was so successful that it’s going to be hard to make the change). 1. I think it’s great that they upgraded the studio, and it looks great from the outside as well. Not only does it keep up with the times but also promotes construction jobs. It’s good to refresh things now and then. The on air talent at NBC is great as well.

Now all they have to do is upgrade their website from the awfulness it currently is.

(There was literally an advertisement for Kansas Jayhawk football on there today.)
