Hena Daniels Leaving WFSB

Weekend anchor Hena Daniels will be on air at WFSB for the February ratings book but after that she’s headed south. Hena, who has anchored and reported for channel 3, has accepted a reporting job with WGCL in Atlanta (also a Meredith station). Hena started at WFSB in 2005; when she started anchoring in 2008, she became one of the first Pakistani news anchor in the U.S.

A good person – best of luck to her!

CTnow.com Gets Makeover

Today, CT1 Media (Tribune Broadcasting) has launched CTnow.com as a statewide site for breaking news, entertainment and weather. This web page is the new online home of FOX CT, WTIC-61 and will replace Fox61.com. The company’s press release below highlights the site’s many new improvements.

HARTFORD, CT (JANUARY 28, 2010) – CTnow.com – Connecticut’s home page – is the new online home of FOX CT (Connecticut), WTIC-61 offering more local content than ever before as well as breaking news, event and venue listings, entertainment information and enhanced weather from FOX CT’s (Connecticut’s) weather team.  Users can also find smart living tips, lifestyle news, online games, regional news, snow school closings, health news and tips, local travel videos and more.

“CTnow.com is back and it’s not just an entertainment site anymore,” said Rich Graziano, publisher of The Courant and general manager of WTIC and WTXX-TV. “It has the information that people want like breaking news, weather, money savings tips and health reports. It also houses the most comprehensive database of restaurants, bars, and clubs in the state of Connecticut.”

CTnow.com made its original debut back in 1999. In 2005, courant.com was launched and CTnow.com became Connecticut’s entertainment portal. It has remained a popular news and entertainment brand throughout the state.

Political Comings and Goings

There has been some movement among the media politicos as of late.

It appears that our old friend Dean Pagani is still keeping a toe in the waters of Connecticut politics after making the move to DC.  Dean will be a media consultant to Tom Foley, Republican gubernatorial candidate.

Colleen Flanagan, the state Democrats’ ‘Attack Husky’, has moved on to work in the Hartford office of Sen. Chris Dodd. For now, state Democratic party executive director Justin Kronholm will handle public relations.

A New Voice to ‘Face’

‘Face the State’ will be unveiling a new voice to the program this Sunday.

As Dennis House notes in his blog, we can count out The Laurel’s own Duby McDowell. However, Dennis hints that “he is a national,  well respected figure.” Tune in Sunday as ‘Face the State’ reveals the mystery voice.

A Big Move for Dawn

http://andrewteman.org/bostonnewswomen/Dawn_Hasbrouck_4.jpg

Dawn Hasbrouck, who anchored WFSB’s weekday morning and noon newscasts until 2007, is leaving her weekend anchor job at  WBZ-TV in Boston to return to her hometown of Chicago (a bigger market). The Chicago Tribune reports that she will anchor the noon news at WFLD-Ch. 32’s “Fox Chicago News at Noon.”

Changes in the air (and on the air) at WTNH?

At WTNH in New Haven an all-station meeting is scheduled for this afternoon at 1pm. The assumption among staff is that new anchor line-ups are going to be announced.
