Schwaid Apologizes

The CBS affiliate in Atlanta recently aired video for which it is now apologizing.  The suspect in this week’s shooting of a Yale doctor is from Atlanta; a reporter from the station informed the wife of Lishan Wang, the alleged shooter,  that her husband had been arrested for the crime. Not surprisingly, she was deeply distraught and fell to the floor crying hysterically. It was all caught on tape and aired during a newscast.

Now News Director Steve Schwaid, who made his mark here in Connecticut during his tenure leading WVIT in the 90s, has issued this apology:

It was wrong. We were wrong and I apologize. We have discussed it internally and will continue to do so. We will also use this video in future training sessions with our staff to show what we should NOT put on television. I can offer no excuse but only hope you will accept our apologies.

  1. Saw it on WFSB and was appalled. Reporters rank just below politicians in sensitivity and class.

  2. Doesn’t surprise me in the least. I’m sure his apology is as sincere as the rest of his news philosophy. A genuine skunk!

  3. Have to agree with JH. I’ll bet he was dancing with glee when he saw the footage.

  4. Did all the local stations air that video clip? If so, what was the response?

  5. But reporters rank several notches above anonymous online trolls name “jake.”

  6. Fred: stung a little, didn’t it?

  7. Sigh, yes “Jake,” ALL reporters have no sensitivity or class. I suppose all lawyers are blood-suckers, all doctors play golf, all….(sigh) Need we go on? Move on to a blog where people care what you say Jake…

  8. TVNEWS – your post was right on. Brilliant. I’m so awed I’m going to take your advice. I will never visit this blog again.

  9. Hi just wanted to give you a quick heads up and let you know a few of the images aren’t loading properly.
I’m not sure why but I think its a linking issue. I’ve tried it in two different
web browsers and both show the same results.
