The Laurel Club was an organization of Connecticut legislative reporters established in 1909. It was formed “To foster cooperation among legislative newspapermen; to promote better government by accurate and fearless reporting; to puncture the overinflated egos of legislators.”
Congratulations to former NBC30 anchor and reporter Derek Slap; he’s just been named Chief of Staff to the state Senate Democrats. Derek is also completing his MBA at UConn Business School and will graduate next spring.
I always liked Derek at NBC30 and thought he had a lot of potential. Wishing him the best in his new role.
Congratulations to a really terrific young man and an excellent news reporter and anchor to boot. I am sorry that his disillusionment with TV news lead to his departure. He seemed destined for great things in front of the camera. i know that he is bringing his high degree of integrity and dedication to this political position. Again – hearty congratulations!
LOVED Slap at the anchor desk and in the field.
Bright, well-spoken, and personable.
Thought he was the future of Ch 30.
Sorry he left but nice to see he’s landed a good job and has a happy family (cute kids!)
