Domestic Dispute Involving Married News Anchors

Ashley and Rob Morrison
Former NBC 30 anchor Rob Morrison had a serious brush with the law this weekend. Morrison was arrested on Sunday, Feb. 17, on charges of second-degree strangulation, second-degree threatening and disorderly conduct following a domestic violence incident with his wife, Ashley. Ashley also worked at NBC30 – she did a brief reporting stint at the station. The couple lives in Darien. Here’s a scene from happier times.

After working as a morning anchor at NBC 30, Rob went on to anchor/reporter duties at WNBC-TV.  He appeared regularly on NBC’s Weekend Today and MSNBC. He then moved on to WCBS-TV where he anchors the morning and noon newscasts.

His wife, Ashley Morrison, served as an air anchor/reporter with Bloomberg television (BTV) from 2007-2009. She is currently an anchor for CBS Moneywatch.

The Courant Wins Praise

Columbia Journalism Review logo

CJR Assistant Editor Sara Morrison gives kudos to her hometown paper,  the Hartford Courant, for its coverage of Newtown:

As bigger outlets from all over the world swarm Newtown to cover an unfathomable tragedy and as legacy outlets and prolific Tweeters alike spat out misinformation and rumors, the Hartford Courant had the best account I’ve seen so far. Its coverage continues to be excellent: patient, accurate, and compassionate.

2013 Shaping Up to be a Great Year for Anthony DiLorenzo

 Anthony DiLorenzo

Suffield’s own Anthony DiLorenzo is leaving Fox CT after two years as a reporter and morning fill-in anchor. It’s for lots of good reasons…he’s moving to Orlando to be with his fiance, Kala Rama, who’s an anchor/reporter at WKMG in Orlando. Both are Connecticut natives and met while working at WWLP in Springfield. Anthony has landed a job at Orlando’s ABC affiliate, WFTV. Congratulations to them!

Connecticut State Police Lt. J. Paul Vance speaks news conference shooting Sandy Hook Elementary school where gunman opened fire killing

Laurels to members of the Connecticut news media who have given their all since Friday morning. A couple mentions:
  • Tom Dudchik’s site CT Capitol Report which has done a tremendously thorough and sensitive job aggregating the local and national coverage since the news broke
  • State Police Lt. Paul Vance. He has always been a pro and it certainly has made a difference when the eyes of the world has been on his department. As the Chicago Sun-Times writes, “Connecticut State Police spokesman Lt. J. Paul Vance delivered a master class in how to relay information and handle the media in the wake of a catastrophe. Composed yet compassionate, straightforward without being robotic or wooden, Vance comes across as a cop who views his relationship with reporters as cooperative rather than adversarial, more of a partnership than a necessary evil.”
