No ‘Goodbye’ for Fox

In a recent blog post, meteorologist Geoff Fox announced that he will not be back on air on WTNH to complete his contract and is looking for other work.

A few weeks ago when I learned there would be no new contract for me I was told I’d return on-air at WTNH following my vacation this Wednesday. That will not happen. Mark Higgins, WTNH general manager, told me he has changed his mind because all of this has become a distraction. Though not what I expected, this is his call to make.

Fox was overwhelmed by the outpouring of support he has received since his departure. We continue to wish him the best of luck.

Another Peeping-Tom at ESPN

Bristol’s own ESPN is in the midst of another peeping-tom controversy with one of its employees this week.

Neil Goldberg, an ESPN producer for motocross coverage, was caught peering into a window while a neighbor was getting undressed (and being more than a peeping-tom). Goldberg was arrested on a warrant charging him with public indecency, simple trespass, disorderly conduct and breach of peace, police said.

We got a chuckle out of Bob Wilson’s impersonation of a voyeur on WTNH….

Winner in the Category of “Most Exclamation Points in a Press Release”

WTNH is revamping the second hour of its 12:00PM news! They are sure to bring more exclamation points than is needed at this time of day!

I can only imagine the number of !!!! we will see during the coverage of the Academy Awards!

WTNH Layoffs

The New Haven Indpendent’s Paul Bass is reporting that WTNH has eliminated over 22 jobs within the past few weeks.

Probably of little consolation to those laid off — including a great veteran of this market, Assistant News Director Virginia Fisher — is the fact that the station is trying to be ahead of the curve in implementing more online content in order to create a multi-platform approach to media. WTNH claims to have the highest online viewership of any TV station in the state.
