Dr. William Petit has already hosted a fundraiser for 5th District GOP candidate Lisa Wilson Foley but ventured into the race again today.

Wilson Foley declined to appear on WNPR program “Where We Live” and intra-party competitor Sen. Andrew Roraback filled her slot. During the interview on Wednesday, WNPR’s John Dankosky asked Roraback about his vote against repealing the death penalty after supporting it two years ago. Today the Wilson Foley campaign sent out this letter signed by Dr. Petit and his sister:

A Message from Dr. William Petit and Hanna Petit Chapman

Bill and I feel compelled to speak about comments made by State Sen. Andrew Roraback Wednesday on the Death Penalty. During the interview on WNPR’s “Where We Live,” Sen. Roraback defended his switch from opposition to support of the state Death Penalty. Sen. Roraback cited the plight of our family as a reason the law was “disingenuous,” since the effect of the new law would not lead to justice for current Death Row convicts.

We are very disappointed and hurt that Sen. Roraback would use our family name without our permission to provide him political cover when the repeal legislation was essentially the same bill he supported in 2009 – which he admitted in the interview.

One of the many reasons we support Lisa Wilson Foley is her consistency on this issue. Sen. Roraback’s attempt to interpret our emotions is simply politics. When we met with Sen. Roraback, we respected his initial position to oppose the Death Penalty. His comments Wednesday, in our minds, cast doubt on whether Sen. Roraback has any core convictions on important issues.

As Republicans from Plainville, we are supporting Lisa Wilson Foley because she is the best qualified to represent us in Washington, based in part, on her core principles.

We hope you will keep this mind as you choose a nominee for the U.S. Congress. We hope you will choose Lisa.

Dean Pagani, former Connecticut communications guy, started a new job today. Dean, who has been living in D.C. for the past two years, is now Director of Communications for U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas). This marks the end of his popular website Governors Journal, which covered the nation’s governors from a national perspective. He has said goodbye to his GoJo readers and we wish him well in his new job at The Senate.

According to John Dankosky, host of WNPR’s “Where We Live,” 5th district congressional candidate Lisa Wilson Foley’s campaign manager cancelled her Wednesday appearance on the program because of the following promo:

Her main rival for the GOP endorsement at this Friday’s convention, state Senator Andrew Roraback, has accepted the interview slot.

  “Martha Raddatz, senior foreign affairs correspondent for ABC News, will receive Quinnipiac University’s 19th annual Fred Friendly First Amendment Award at an invitation-only luncheon at 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, June 7, at the Metropolitan Club, One East 60^th Street, New York City.

The award is presented annually to a journalist who has shown courage and forthrightness in preserving the First Amendment.”

No, Ann Nyberg of WTNH was not attacked in Madrid and does not need you to send money to her via Western Union for airfare. Her email account was hacked.

We’re a little confused. When Al Terzi left WFSB there was rampant speculation among his fellow broadcasters as to where he would land. The folks at Fox CT made a show of escorting him around their newsroom, leading many to assume that a spot would be created for him there. But a couple months later we see in JAVA that Al and son Tony will co-host a Saturday morning radio show on WDRC-AM.

Saturday mornings.

And only twice a month.

This is a nice “scaling back” schedule but we inferred that Al wasn’t ready to leave prime time yet. Perhaps there’s more to come.

As the Hartford Courant downsizes its staff , Andrew Julien is named Editor. He replaces Naedine Hazell who is staying at the paper but whose new position wasn’t announced in the Courant article about the change. Previously Andrew worked as integrated media editor and coordinated coverage across television, print and online. Both he and Naedine have spent the last 20 years or so at the Courant.
