Big Move for WTNH’s Jamie Muro

From a WTNH memo:

A lot mixed emotions this morning as Jamie Muro has announced he’s leaving News8. Jamie is heading over to the dark side, working in media relations for Sullivan & LeShane in Hartford. In his 8 years at WTNH, Jamie has not only been one of our best reporters, but his attitude and sunny demeanor have really been a positive in the newsroom, and he and TomP have gotten the Middletown Newsroom off to a great start. While I won’t miss his Dallas Cowboy helmet, I’ll definitely miss Jamie both on-air and in-person. Jamie’s last day will be Friday, June 28^th. A search for his replacement will begin immediately. Please join me in wishing him nothing but the best!

RIP Housatonic Times

The Housatonic Times, the successor to the nearly century-old New Milford Times, is no more – June 7th marked the last print and online edition. Matt DeRienzo is Connecticut group editor for its parent company, 21st Century Media:

“We’ve merged the Housatonic Times coverage into the Litchfield County Times,” DeRienzo said. “New Milford news will continue to be covered, appearing in the LCT.” He added Alice Tessier, previously managing editor of the Housatonic Times, has been named associate editor of the Litchfield County Times. DeRienzo added no staff was eliminated with the cancellation of the Housatonic Times.

Greenwich Time political reporter Neil Vigdor has just been named political writer for Hearst Connecticut Newspapers (CT Post, Danbury News-Times, Greenwich Time, Stamford Advocate). In a memo to the staff, the Executive Editor of Hearst CT Media Group – Bobbie Roessner – describes Neil’s new role:

Neil is no stranger to politics, of course, having covered last year’s U.S. Senate race, and countless other smackdowns for public office, with insight and style. His new beat will enable him to focus full-time on chronicling the nexus of personality, policy and power throughout the state, with a special emphasis on Fairfield County. He will blog full-time as well, and will embrace all our digital platforms in new and creative ways. Neil will continue to work out of the Greenwich Time office, though he will roam all our newsrooms and make periodic forays to DC for specific stories.

After two decades in the newspaper business, assistant sports editor John Pettit is leaving the Meriden Record-Journal to take a job as a web writer/editor at Quinnipiac University. John started his career at the Naugatuck Daily News and has spent the past 19 years in Meriden. A former Wallingford bureau chief on the news side, John covered UConn men’s basketball for nine seasons. He has a master’s degree in journalism for Quinnipiac, where he has taught journalism as an adjunct professor.

Shuffling the Deck

Recently we referenced changes at the Stamford Advocate. We now know who’s going where at the CT Hearst Papers…

Tom Mellana, the Advocate’s Editorial Page Editor, has been appointed Managing Editor of the Greenwich Time.

He replaces Albie Yuravich who moves on to the New Haven Register where he will direct the regional page design center.

The new editorial page editor of The Advocate and The Time is former Advocate Editor John Breunig.

Chris Hall, recently of thedailyvoice.com and an alumna of the Time and the CT Post, is the new managing editor of The Advocate.

WTNH is partnering with Digital First Media (which owns the Journal Register Company, parent of the New Haven Register/Register Citizen/Middletown Press/CT Magazine). This explains News 8′s opening of a bureau at the Middletown Press.

WTHN now has bureaus in Middletown, Bridgeport, Hartford and New London.
