Congratulations to STN CHANNEL2, the University of Hartford’s completely student run television station; it celebrated 20 years of broadcasting over the weekend. STN’s flagship program is a live half hour newscast that airs every Friday during the fall and spring semesters at 5PM. At one time in the 1990’s it was New England’s only live collegiate television newscast. In the 2000’s STN was named best non-daily newscast in the country by the Society of Professional Journalists.
STN2 has launched dozens if not hundreds of successful media careers including here in Connecticut with FOX CT reporter Jeevan Vittal, FOX CT engineering manager David Honeywell, and NBC CT producer Kristie Borges. Nationally STN2 alumni are working all over including Rob Melick director of Meet the Press, and Brad Cheney the Director of Engineering at MLB NETWORK.
