The CBS affiliate in Atlanta recently aired video for which it is now apologizing. The suspect in this week’s shooting of a Yale doctor is from Atlanta; a reporter from the station informed the wife of Lishan Wang, the alleged shooter, that her husband had been arrested for the crime. Not surprisingly, she was deeply distraught and fell to the floor crying hysterically. It was all caught on tape and aired during a newscast.
Now News Director Steve Schwaid, who made his mark here in Connecticut during his tenure leading WVIT in the 90s, has issued this apology:
It was wrong. We were wrong and I apologize. We have discussed it internally and will continue to do so. We will also use this video in future training sessions with our staff to show what we should NOT put on television. I can offer no excuse but only hope you will accept our apologies.
