The actress who helped define the feminism of the ’60’s and ’70’s through her role as local TV news staffer Mary Richards is dead.
Mary Tyler Moore died Wednesday at age 80 at a hospital in Connecticut. She lived in Greenwich.

Moore’s portrayal of Mary Richards took viewers behind the scenes of the WJM newsroom introducing us to characters readers of The Laurel may still run into today in real life. Most notably, the anchorman Ted Baxter(the original Ron Burgundy), played by Ted Knight, who grew up in Connecticut.
