Connecticut State Police Lt. J. Paul Vance is retiring.

He served as state police spokesman from 1999 until two years ago when he was transferred – according to many – without adequate explanation.

Vance was praised by many for his work in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook school shooting. His years of experience interacting with the news media on a daily basis prepared him well as the eyes of the world focused on Connecticut.

He has been with the state police for 42 years. His retirement is effective April 1.

Good luck Paul.

Sinclair Interested in Tribune TV

unknown

According to several reports, Sinclair Broadcast Group has approached Tribune Media about a merger.

Such a deal would combine two of the largest broadcast groups in the country and would need regulatory approval. It is also likely such a combination would require the sale of some stations.

Tribune Media owns Fox 61 and WCCT in Connecticut.

The Transformation

In an interview with Poynter, Matt DeRienzo, who was named executive director of LION Publishers this week, says local online news outlets are replacing the journalism of legacy news organizations in many cities across the country.
