150 Years of Meriden Journalism

Later this month the Meriden Record-Journal will mark its 150th anniversary. Or sesquicentennial.

Of course, that history includes several other papers, mergers and a few locations.

The paper put together a historical photo essay for distribution through social media channels as the company continues to evolve in the changing world of publishing.

The Yale Connection

Screen shot – New York Times

“Congratulations, you have just sued the president” – is the title of a video featured on the New York Times website covering the role of Yale Law School students in recent legal action against the Trump administration.

The short film shows the reality of what it took to intervene on behalf of people caught up in the president’s first travel ban executive order. And it all happened right here!

And Now…The News From South Bend

Can you hear us now?

This week Sinclair began broadcasting the news for Toledo, Ohio from South Bend, Indiana – about two and a half hours away.

Under this model, which could be a sign of things to come in medium and small markets, the news is gathered locally, but presented by anchors in a studio somewhere out of town reducing the budget for anchors in various cities.

The same South Bend team presents the news for viewers in the Scranton/Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania market. Sinclair recently expressed interest in a merger with Tribune Media which owns Fox 61 and WCCT in Connecticut.
