Meerkat Trending

A few years ago, politicians often complained they could no longer have a serious, thoughtful interview with reporters, because journalists were all carrying small video cameras and trying to turn routine interviews into great video moments.

Now, the news business has changed gears again with the Meerkat app that allows anyone with an iPhone to stream video live over Twitter. Some are predicting this marks a major change in how news organizations cover stories; particularly the coverage of the coming presidential campaign.

Friday, Kasie Hunt of MSNBC, conducted the first Meerkat interview with a White House press secretary. The full interview is posted in the story we’ve linked to here. Notice how Hunt replaces a full camera crew simply by placing her phone on the desk between her and her interview subject and switching the camera viewpoint during the Q and A. She gets better at it as the interview goes on, as is often the case with new technology.
