Here is an interesting little story that could lead to a bigger one.
Java reports Hal Lichtenbaum, known to many longtime Hartford radio listeners as “The Lich” from WCCC(hold for another Bill Savitt reference*), has left his position as a deejay at WJMJ.
JMJ(Jesus, Mary and Joseph) is owned by the Catholic Archdiocese’s Office of Radio and Television and in recent years has been able to hire a bunch of former well known Hartford market hosts in a sort of WOLD style.
Father John Gatzak, himself an accomplished broadcaster, says The Lich would only tell him he had “an opportunity he couldn’t pass up.” This will of course lead to speculation among some radio fans that The Lich has been offered a position at one of this market’s classic rock stations for one more ride. Who knows.
*Former Hartford jeweler Bill Savitt and his brother– referenced in the post on Jeff Jacobs – were the first owners of WCCC.
