Former Connecticut U.S. Senator Joseph Lieberman sent a letter to the White House Thursday pulling himself out of consideration for the role of FBI director.

Lieberman was said to be the leading candidate at the end of last week, but Trump’s selection of the Kasowitz, Benson, Torres & Friedman law firm to represent him with regard to the Russia investigation, prompted Lieberman to cite a potential conflict of interest and withdraw. Lieberman is a senior counselor with the firm.

Almost as soon as Lieberman’s name was floated, New Haven Independent publisher Paul Bass, wrote a story questioning the potential conflict.
