Straying outside our normal geographic range of Connecticut to mark a notable passing…

Lillian Ross, the long-time writer for The New Yorker, died this week in Manhattan. She was 99. Stroke was the cause of death.

She was known for her devotion to her craft, which centered on observation and listening, and her longevity as a contributing journalist. In its obituary of Ross, the New York Times describes her as one of the first to apply the writing techniques of fiction to tell non-fiction stories.
