Former NBC CT reporter Debra Alfarone opened up this week – on-air – about her own struggle with suicidal impulses when she has a teenager.
Alfarone is now an anchor for WUSA 9 in Washington, D.C. She said she decided to tell her story after the death this week of Kate Spade in the hope it might help others.
“I tried to take my own life as a troubled teen and I wasn’t successful but thank god I didn’t because I wouldn’t be here now.
“I have been holding onto this story and I thought to myself, what am I holding onto this for. It could help somebody.”
