FOX 61 announced today that its new broadcast, Fox 61 Midday, will debut on Monday, September 21 at 11 a.m. Morning News Anchor Sarah French will add to her duties and anchor the new newscast. Also staying on air for the 11 a.m. broadcast will be Morning News meteorologist Joe Furey, one of the market’s most familiar names (and faces) in weather. Joe will continue to continue to provide weather reports for WTIC News/Talk 1080, 96.5 TIC-FM, Lite 100.5 WRCH and 97.3 WZBG.
According to a press release, “Following the FOX 61 Midday launch, the station plans to expand its news offerings by adding a one hour broadcast at 6 p.m. early next year.”
So Joe is on for 4.5 hours for the morning show, plus another hour for the midday show… Garrett is only on for 90 mins…
Who makes more money??
PS… Why no Logan on the 11am?
While many of us don’t always agree with the decisions made by management when it comes to WTIC-TV and the Courant, I have to be honest and say that the FOX61 Morning Show has some of the finest personalities on the air in Connecticut. Joy, Jeff, Jennifer, Joe, Sam, Rachel, Sarah, and Logan really make a great team. While I vowed to never watch the program again after they got rid of Rebecca Stewart, I was back watching in no time. It also helps that they’re on from 7-9 when the other stations go to network programming (with the exception of the one-hour 7 o’clock edition of News Channel 8 on MyTV9 which you couldn’t pay me to watch). I do a lot of consulting work on the road in the morning and nearly every office lobby television is tuned into FOX61’s morning news. It truly is the best in this market and I think they deserved to be recognized accordingly, despite ‘the sins of their fathers’ so to speak.
I also look forward to seeing how they do up against NBC Connecticut at 11 am. Afterall, competition is a good thing.
I’d have to disagree with “newsfan”…I find these kids kind of bland bunch of 20-somethings who know little about our state. I love Joe for weather because he’s so experienced…have little use for the rest of this show. We mostly watch CNN in the morning for a few minutes, then we’re out the door. Don’t know who would care about 11 am news with more of the same..fires, accidents, shootings, Brad and Angie news. No one’s home…we’re busy living our lives.
Big deal.
I wonder…. if the new newscast comes with any new staff, or more money for those who are going to have to conjure up another hour of news. Ditto the folks on the ‘TIC radio side who suddenly went “all news” in the afternoon when COlin McEnroe was let go.
