This week saw some moves in the Connecticut news media landscape:
Former Hartford Courant Editorial Page Editor Carolyn Lumsden will be joining the faculty at Central Connecticut State University as the Robert C. Vance Endowed Chair in Journalism and Mass Communication. Lumsden, who was the first female editor of the Courant’s editorial page, left the Courant in 2018 after 25 years to focus on writing about the growing issue of crumbling foundations through the Society of Professional Journalists’ 2018 Pulliam Editorial Writing Fellowship.
Reporter and Anchor Eva Zymaris has left WFSB after a four-year run at Eyewitness News. Eva was most often seen during the station’s morning and noon newscasts. No word yet on what the next chapter holds for Zymaris.
Readers of the Laurel may remember previous posts on Louis the Coin, the real-life character at the center of the book, “You Thought It Was More; Adventures of the World’s Greatest Counterfeiter“, co-written by Waterbury Republican American reporter, Andy Thibault, and Gateway Community College professor Franz Douskey. Louis, a Rhode Island resident whose real name is Louis Colavecchio, was recently granted compassionate release from prison due to his declining health and the risk of Covid. This week, Louis the Coin passed away at the age of 78. RIP Louis.
