In the case of Covid-19, the right thing means advocating for mitigation efforts, like mask wearing and social distancing, and educating the public about the need for vaccinations. Put another way; good policy is good politics. Governor Ned Lamont is no doubt being rewarded politically for his decision to follow a policy developed to prevent illness and death.
As this article from Fortune points out, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis may be calculating some short-term gain by ignoring the threat Covid presents to his constituents, but it is a bad long-term bet that is literally killing his voters. We wonder if DeSantis simply skipped class on the days they taught common sense at Harvard and Yale.
