As we deal with the remnants of Tuesday’s rainy and windy storm, a few follow ups on stories we’ve been keeping track of for you.

Baltimore. Stewart Bainum, the hotel owner who tried to buy Tribune Publishing in a bid to get control of the Baltimore Sun, has officially launched his new news project. The Baltimore Banner will be a non-profit news site designed to pick up where Bainum thinks the Sun has been falling short. He announced his first major hire Tuesday. Kimi Yoshino of the Los Angeles Times will be the Banner’s top editor.

The Knight-Cronkite News Lab is gaining some traction with a study it has done on local news recruitment. The Bottom Line: Low salaries, the move toward MMJ and an audience that can’t sit still for a half-hour newscast are all combining to make it difficult for local stations to recruit talent.

Rumors of danger. People are talking about changes at the CBS Evening News when Norah O’Donnell’s contract expires next year. Matt Buckler of the Journal Inquirer is not the only media reporter on the story. The word is CBS wants to cut costs by replacing O’Donnell and there are the usual un-sourced claims that the target of the axe does not play nice with others. The Laurel has been unable to independently confirm these reports, but we will let you know when we do.
