It’s Election Day and as has been the tradition for decades the two off-off year elections getting attention are the races for governor in Virginia and New Jersey. Every four years they are considered significant indicators of which way the voters are headed, and each year – afterward – everyone seems to agree all races are local and have nothing to do with national trends. That being said, Virginia in particular, may send a message in the post Trump era.

Other races to watch: Boston and Buffalo mayoral contests. Boston will elect a woman of color tonight and Buffalo may elect a candidate running as a Democratic Socialist.

Happy 90th to former CBS News man Dan Rather.

Condolences to former Connecticut Republican campaign operative and Yale graduate Fergus Cullen on the passing of his father who was 84.
