The CT Mirror is reporting on the formation of a new Republican super PAC in Connecticut that is designed to provide financial backing to Republican candidates for governor and other statewide constitutional officers on the ballot this fall.
What is raising eyebrows in some corners is the sole $500,000 donation made to the PAC by David Kelsey, the chair of the Old Lyme Republican town committee and the financial backer of the CT Examiner, a news website with six reporters covering town and regional news on the shoreline.
This would not be the first time in history a top financial backer of a media outlet has made a political contribution, but the size of the contribution and the secrecy around super PACS will raise questions in some circles.
