At the end of last week a number of news outlets asked congressional leaders to release all the surveillance video from January 6th to all news outlets who want it.
This is in response to the decision by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy to release the video exclusively to Tucker Carlson(Trinity ’91) of the television network known as “Fox News.”
From our perspective, the problem here is not that the video is being released, but that it is being released exclusively to one organization. What Tucker Carlson does with the video is of less importance than the general principle that the video belongs to the American people, not Kevin McCarthy, and he has no right to decide who gets to see it and who does not.
If there is no security threat created by the release of the video then it should be made generally available to the American public – who paid for it and have a right to it.
