Not unexpectedly, Nora O’Donnell is leaving the anchor chair of the CBS Evening News after the fall elections.
She intends to stay with CBS long-term and will focus on “big interviews” and other projects for the Evening News, 60 Minutes, and other CBS platforms. There was lots of speculation about O’Donnell’s future with CBS after her most recent contract renewal, but regardless of the rumors she stayed on.
In the short history of television, being chosen to anchor the nightly news of a major network was considered a career capstone. Today, it will be interesting to see if there is any fight for the position at all. It is possible that CBS might choose a rotating stable of anchors or take another approach entirely.
