Anchoring Washington Week on PBS has long been about the prestige and not the size of the audience, and apparently Yamiche Alcindor has had enough prestige for now.
She has announced she is stepping away from hosting the weekly Friday roundtable to focus on a book she is writing and her work at NBC News.
In the past, the role of Washington Week moderator has been coveted and not easily relinquished. Alcindor however becomes the second host in recent years to leave after a short tenure. Robert Costa of the Washington Post left the job to co-write a book with Bob Woodward.
A replacement hasn’t been named yet, but there are plenty to choose from including Lisa Desjardins of PBS, Libby Casey and Leigh Ann Caldwell of the Washington Post, and a small pack of print journalists who dabble in TV. Shepard Smith is not considered a strong candidate for this position.
