Anchor Changes

Less than a month after it was announced Mike Hydeck is returning to Connecticut for an unspecified anchor role at NBC CT, The Laurel has learned of a new anchor line-up to debut in the coming weeks.

Sources with internal working knowledge of operations at 1422 New Britain Avenue have confirmed Hydeck will soon be paired with co-anchors at 5p.m. and 11p.m. At the same time, long-time sports personality Kevin Nathan will end his sports role and work exclusively on the news side.

The slotting of Hydeck at 11p.m. may be a first step toward retirement for veteran Connecticut anchor Gerry Brooks. The Brooks schedule scale-back is similar to the path taken by former NBC CT anchor Joanne Nesti prior to her full-time retirement. Brooks has extended his contract as part of these changes, so his departure is not imminent and the change is seen as a smart way to extend the tenure of one of the market’s most popular anchors.

Here’s the new projected line-up according to our sources:

4p.m.: Kerri-Lee Mayland and Kevin Nathan
5p.m.: Keisha Grant and Mike Hydeck
    5:30p.m.: Kerri-Lee and Kevin
    6p.m. Keisha and Gerry Brooks
    11p.m.: Keisha and Mike
