This week Sinclair began broadcasting the news for Toledo, Ohio from South Bend, Indiana – about two and a half hours away.
Under this model, which could be a sign of things to come in medium and small markets, the news is gathered locally, but presented by anchors in a studio somewhere out of town reducing the budget for anchors in various cities.
The same South Bend team presents the news for viewers in the Scranton/Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania market. Sinclair recently expressed interest in a merger with Tribune Media which owns Fox 61 and WCCT in Connecticut.
