After 43 years Alan and Andrea Spaulding have retired from running their hot dog shaped hot dog stand near the Middletown line in Portland. The good news is they are turning the dog and the operation over to Marissa Puida of Portland who plans to add some fancier items to the menu.
The story caught our eye not only because this has been a go-to spot for news reporters driving through Middletown at lunch time for decades, but because Senator Richard Blumenthal managed to turn it into a photo op for himself. The Spauldings maybe retiring, but they can still vote! (Not a criticism, just an observation).
It has been said that the most important thing in life is “showing up.” Blumenthal has been showing up as an elected official since 1984. BTW; he’s 77.
