AS the AP reports: A first-person account of child pornography accusations against a Hartford doctor, and stories about foreign workers at Pfizer Inc. won top awards in the Connecticut Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists’ annual excellence in journalism awards. Judges singled out The Hartford Courant’s Kevin Hunt for the Stephen A. Collins Public Service award for his account of being photographed by Dr. George Reardon in 1970. Photographs and other evidence were discovered after Reardon’s death.The Theodore Driscoll Award for Investigative Reporting was given to Lee Howard of The Day for stories about Pfizer’s use of H-1B visas.
James Smith won the First Amendment award for editorials and columns in the Connecticut Post (Smith is now Executive Editor of the Bristol Press and The New Britain Herald).
