In an unexpected move, long time Hartford Courant reporter and editor Andrew Julien was named publisher and editor-in-chief Wednesday morning.
Julien’s rise to this newly created dual role comes less than a week after a change at the top of parent company Tribune Publishing. It also comes just two months after Tom Wiley was introduced as the Courant’s new publisher.
Tribune Publishing moved Wednesday to elevate top editors at all its publications to the position of publisher and editor-in-chief. While the company is explaining the decision as a recognition of the importance of local content, it may increase speculation that Tribune Publishing is positioning to sell some of its properties.
Setting such speculation aside for the moment; congratulations to Andrew.
