Connecticut journalism has lost Ann DeMatteo; read Ed Stannard’s remembrance of her in the New Haven Register.
Ann’s last newspaper stop was as managing editor of the Middletown Press, but her journalistic legacy will be her 34 years as a beat reporter for the New Haven Register, covering Hamden, North Haven and a few other towns briefly for good measure. Ann usually was working on four or five stories at any given time. Which ones would she file today? She’d let you know later.
Ann covered North Haven for about 20 years, and she was a dedicated pro. Her Sunday New Haven Register columns about fighting cancer were an inspiration to cancer patents, their families and caregivers. Ann was also a good friend to us at North Haven Community Television. My condolences to Ann’s family and friends.
I had the privilege of crossing paths with Ann many times during my tenure covering Wallingford for The Hartford Courant, and she was always a pleasure to work with – smart, careful, compassionate. So sorry we have lost her too soon. Blessed be, Ann. Love Amy Nixon, an old J friend from CT, now working in VT.
