Former NPR foreign correspondent Anne Garrels, a resident of Norfolk, Connecticut, is dead at age 71. She died of lung cancer at her home on Wednesday.
Garrels was born in Springfield, Massachusetts. Before joining NPR in 1988, she worked at both ABC and NBC News.
