One of the most eye opening developments of the last week was the decision by CNN to cancel all live programming on HLN(originally CNN2 and later Headline News) including the long-running and everyone assumed popular Morning Express with Robin Meade.
But Variety reports the decision should not come as a shock to anyone given the slow decline of cable television channels and suggests we should expect more big changes in the future as streaming replaces cable as a preferred source of news and entertainment for audiences. It might be argued HLN was streaming before streaming was cool.
It will be interesting to see whether Meade decides to call it a career after her cancelation or whether she will show up as the host of a new program on one of the streaming channels being offered by one of the original big three television networks.
