The row over the Wesleyan Argus continues in Middletown with the Wesleyan Student Assembly Senate going forward with plans to dramatically cut the paper’s budget following the publication of a controversial op-ed on the Black Lives Matter movement.

The decision to reduce the on-campus paper’s funding is being presented as a move to help all on-campus publications move away from print and toward what is known as “digital first publishing.” But in light of the most recent controversy some see the WSA’s move as punitive and aimed directly at the student reporters and editors of the Argus.

The controversy led to a public forum on journalism and free speech held last week at Wesleyan. It was covered by Argus staff.
