Mike Allen.

Two of the men behind the birth and success of Politico have finally announced plans for their next venture.

Jim VandeHei and Mike Allen are ready to launch a new digital news platform that will be known as Axios. We have been following this story because Allen spent time in Hartford as the capitol based reporter for the New York Times.

From Vanity Fair:

Axios wants to focus on business, technology, politics, and media trends through hiring people “who are authentically wired and smart in those topic areas,”

Allen will reinvent his popular Playbook newsletter – a key to Politico’s early success – but the newsletter will now include items cutting across all Axios’s coverage targets.

VandeHei and Allen seem as committed to proving that most existing media platforms, from the New York Times to Buzzfeed, have it wrong in terms of long term business strategy. They have been telling investors that they want to create a news organization that might result from the mating of Twitter and The Economist. We are sure the rest of the media world appreciates their insight and candor.
