Over the weekend a Laurel reader sent us some old early ’70’s photos of WFSB personalities.

Bud Wilkinson, a columnist for the Waterbury Republican-American and host of the motorcycle site RIDE-CT.com, did a short internship at channel 3 while going to school at Ohio Wesleyan University. He sent along these shots from his files.

Dick Bertel anchoring the news.

It’s interesting to see the cinder block walls just above the outer edges of the weather set with its “state of the art” dials, scopes and other weather machines.

A news interview at Hartford City Hall.

While rummaging around ourselves to try to identify everyone in these photos we came across this old radio broadcast on WTIC radio. Dick Bertel breaks in to report an assassination attempt on the life of President Kennedy. It’s interesting to hear the old references to “toll free” dial in numbers, the Hartford Times, and the Times TV section among others. Once the special reporting begins you can hear how the story was being assembled line by line as the minutes passed after the shooting.

H/T – Bud Wilkinson. Thanks Bud.
