Last month we told you about The Sacramento Bee, once one of America’s great newspapers, moving in a direction that frightened its staff; owner McClatchy was attempting to tie journalists’ pay to the number of clicks their stories get. The paper’s news guild urged the company to reconsider.
The guild and McClatchy have reached a tentative contract agreement that lasts through 2022, and it ensures the company can’t force pageview quotas on reporters in their annual reviews.
