Journalism professor and blogger Jeff Jarvis is out with an article advocating for more enterprise reporting.
Specifically he says too many news organizations feel pressured to cover the same stories just to say they did. With so many sources of news available, Jarvis says news organizations should have the courage to go their own way and leave routine coverage to a few select outlets known for general coverage.
This is why in recent months we’ve pointed out the approach of CBS News. Marketing aside, there seems to be a deliberate effort at CBS to break from the pack and report stories no one else is paying attention to. Whether it is a Charlie Rose interview or an Elizabeth Palmer report from inside Syria.
We’re for more of that regardless of where it is being done. Enterprise reporting is the big differentiator.
