Only in Bridgeport reports that WICC is making some ‘mega changes’.
So here’s the quick lineup change: newsmen Tim Quinn and Paul Pacelli are out. Mike Bellamy is now the morning news guy working with Tony Reno who has potent morning ratings.
Comedian Dennis Miller’s syndicated radio show will fill the 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. slot; syndicated consumer affairs host Clark Howard takes over the 1 to 4 p.m. spot followed by Buchanan.
So it now appears that WTIC now has the distinction of being one of only two radio news departments (with more than one full time news person) left in Connecticut.
I am purposefully leaving out WQUN. It is owned by a college/university and therefore operates under a different business model, as does WNPR.
In case you are wondering, the other is WLAD in Danbury. At least it was a couple of months ago. Since they don’t believe in having a web site…..
And to think at one point this state had dozens of places in which to follow news.
I would remind you about some gems east of the river: WICH in Norwich, WILI in Willimantic, and WINY in Putnam. Last time I checked, they still have active news departments.
On the mark in 2 out of 3 cases. Looking only at their web site I can’t find any newspeople at WICH,
The other two appear to have news departments although we will not get into the larger discussion about how you cover news with barely enough people to cover air shifts.
