There was a time in the not so recent past when local radio stations were as important to a local community as the morning or afternoon newspaper.
And so it seems with the passing of a local radio personality in Westerly, Rhode Island that small part of the media landscape is also slowly disappearing.
Chris DiPaola of WBLQ was known as the “voice of Westerly.” He died last week at the age of 49 of an apparent heart attack. He was a life-long resident of the town.
According to the Westerly Sun, DiPaolo loved his job, radio, and his community and was a constant presence at community events of all sizes.
