A few weeks ago former NBC Connecticut meteorologist Kaitlyn McGrath won an award from the Northern Virginia chapter of the Citizens’ Climate Lobby for her work describing how climate change effects the weather. McGrath is a forecaster in Washington, D.C. at WUSA9.
But this post is not really about her. It’s about a former Boston forecaster – Chris Gloninger – who was specifically recruited to a station in Iowa, because of his commitment to using TV weather forecasting to educate the public about climate change.
Once he started doing what the station asked him to do, a certain portion of the audience protested. Soon, station management tried to correct course, and soon after that Gloninger left the station having learned a lesson about the political divide over the issue of global warming.
Here is his story as reported by the New York Times.
