Courant Building on the Block

In another sign of the times, The Hartford Business Journal is reporting that the building that formerly served as the headquarters and printing facility for the Hartford Courant is being put on the auction block. That starting price: $700,000.

Near the Capitol, the building once represented a powerful, feared, and respected civic institution that could move state government policy with an investigative story, an editorial, or even – at times – an editorial cartoon. Now the building is less than 25% occupied. The main tenant is Fox 61. What is left of the Courant’s once large staff works out of a smaller space in the city or remotely.
