Connecticut Congressman Joe Courtney is supporting a bill working its way through the legislative process to provide relief to local news companies.
The primary aim of the measure is to provide local news organizations a 48 month period of time during which they can negotiate with tech giants like Facebook and Google in an effort to get paid for content they produce that ends up being shared on big platforms.
The legislation is modeled after a new law in Australia and was opposed by large technology companies.
