Ajit Pai, the new chairman of the FCC, says it is time to reconsider rules preventing cross ownership of television and radio stations and newspapers in the same market.
The rules have been in place for decades, but Pai says the current economic reality in the media business requires a re-examination, adding, cross ownership might help some struggling television stations and newspapers survive.
The issue came to a head in Connecticut several years ago when Tribune purchased both Fox 61 and the Hartford Courant.
