The management office of the Connecticut state legislature is expected to temporarily extend the contract of the Connecticut Public Affairs Network(CPAN) to continue operating CT-N. The cable access station and website broadcasts coverage of the legislature and other state government activities.
CPAN is the only company responding to a request for proposals issued earlier this year that was written to give greater editorial control over the network’s programming to lawmakers.
The move has freedom of information advocates and newspaper editorial boards warning of censorship. The temporary contract extension is viewed by capitol observers as part of an attempt by lawmakers to wiggle out of an unexpected controversy.
