According to the Hartford Business Journal, Connecticut Public is planning to renovate the first floor of its headquarters building in Hartford to foster greater public engagement.

The project application, filed with the city and obtained by the HBJ, says the non-profit company plans to create a “public engagement center” consisting of; a 225-person auditorium, meeting space, black-box studio and a small conference room.

The move by CT Public is consistent with efforts made by other public media companies around the country who have built out space for public events, and in at least one case, opened a coffee shop to foster dialogue between employees and listeners. Sources inside CT Public have previously told The Laurel the coffee shop idea has been discussed and so far rejected for Hartford.
