We told you last week that 40 year Hartford Courant veteran investigative reporter, business editor, and consumer columnist George Gombossy would be leaving the Courant yesterday. Wasting no time, today marks the launch of CtWatchdog.com which George has created with former Courant staffers Jeanne Leblanc and Tom Twitchell. According to his bio on the new web site:
“George Gombossy was the first investigative consumer columnist in the Courant’s history, and probably its last, as he was fired as of Aug. 14 after refusing to ‘be nice’ to major advertisers.”
Go to the new site to see the advertiser to which George is referring.
The Courant keeps coming up with new, different, inventive and exciting ways to convince me NOT to EVER subscribe to their newspaper again. It is all too apparent this latest bunch of corporate mental midgets have no understanding of journalism, ethics or the reason why we buy newspapers in the first place. We buy them for good insightful journalism, not for the flyers. Looks like these fellas would do better editing a corporate newsletter.
Please keep me informed.
I hope you will be able to investigate the increase in homeowners insurance. I have never made a claim on either of my properties and the cost went up by 30%. This also happened to my son. When I questioned the company (Century 21), they told me that the increase was due to the increasae in the number of claims in my area. My son has AIG but that is again Century 21. My feeling is that due to hurricane Irene they have increased the cost on all to minimize their losses.
