The headline is not meant to evoke the Friday the 13th “re-instatement” of Donald Trump, but in broadcast news today will present CNN with a delicate ethical dance.
Chris Cuomo, one of CNN’s primetime hosts will return to the air a week following the resignation of his brother New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. Andrew, as you know, was caught up in the fallout from a sexual harassment investigation. Chris has been caught up in his own way by the same scandal, because the investigation revealed he was advising his brother – the governor – on media relations issues.
This makes things much more complicated for both Chris and CNN as they navigate how to cover the Andrew Cuomo story during Chris’s show.
The fall of Afghanistan to the Taliban could serve as a way for Chris to avoid the issue, but journalism’s ethics observers(those nattering nabobs of negativism) will be sure to keep the pressure on until Chris says something publicly about his brother and his own role in the story.
