CNN star anchor Chris Cuomo has been placed on “indefinite suspension.”
The network plans an investigation into Cuomo’s role in helping his brother, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, with crisis management advice while the governor fought off charges of sexual harassment in the workplace. It appears Chris Cuomo was more heavily involved in managing the crisis then he originally described. If the latest reporting is accurate, it appears Cuomo was less than truthful about his role when he explained himself to CNN viewers on air several months ago.
We noted at the time that both Cuomo brothers were at least guilty of the offense of claiming their own high standards made it impossible for them to do anything unethical.
The Cuomo brothers have created a crisis management conundrum for CNN. The network’s standards and practices are on the line. If Cuomo is allowed to return to CNN’s line-up there will always be those who will say CNN bent the rules on his behalf or to maintain the network’s prime time ratings.
